About Prima Donna

On his visit to Italy in 1990, a cheese lover from Holland became enthusiastic about the wonderful local cheese specialties the country offers. So enthusiastic, in fact, that he wanted to develop something similar in the Netherlands. After returning home, he rolled up his sleeves and created a product that combines the best of Dutch Gouda with a full Italian character. And thus, Prima Donna was born – the best of both worlds.

Our cheeses are known for their sweet, nutty, and spicy flavors – a unique combinazione of Italian cheese with an artisanal Dutch twist. You can recognize Prima Donna cheese by the characteristic protein crystals created through our unique ripening process. This distinct feature is what defines Prima Donna. It’s no wonder our special cheeses have won more than 10 golden awards.

Our cheeses are made using a special and secret recipe, giving them their distinctive, full flavor. Maturation plays a crucial role, much like with wine, as our cheese develops its flavor over time. The cheeses only leave the warehouse when our cheese master fully approves the flavor profile, ensuring no concessions are made. That’s why the taste is always what you’ve come to expect from Prima Donna cheese: full-bodied and powerful.
